Daniel Gooch - Life and Legacy
23 July to Early 2017
In 1840 Daniel Gooch wrote a letter to Isambard Kingdom Brunel outlining why he thought Swindon was the ideal place to base the Great Western Railway’s engine repair facility, and so, Swindon Works was born.
Daniel Gooch was pivotal in helping to create the Swindon that we know today. Daniel Gooch – Life and Legacy is a special exhibition that celebrates the lasting legacy he left to the town.
Showing objects, documents and photographs from STEAM’s collections, as well as from the collections of the National Railway Museum and the National Archive, this exhibition explores the life and work of this remarkable engineer.
Daniel Gooch – Life and Legacy runs from 23rd July 2016 to early 2017 at the STEAM Museum and is included with standard admission.
